A-TCAA’s Friday Night Live (FNL) Program builds partnerships for positive and healthy youth development which engage youth as active leaders and resources in their communities. The FNL Program provides county-wide and school based alcohol and drug prevention activities. The program engages children of various ages from all backgrounds and interests in a variety of youth-led activities, and the staff makes special efforts to connect with both traditional leaders and vulnerable youth who may not be involved in other activities.
The FNL Program empowers young people to make healthy decisions in a drug and alcohol free environment. The FNL youth participants and staff, in collaboration with the California Highway Patrol, have implemented the Every 15 Minutes Program at Summerville High School and Sonora High School. FNL also helped to organize Sober Graduation events at both Summerville and Sonora High schools; held a Town Hall meeting focused on underage drinking and access; took over 15 students to leadership trainings out of county; held the Fashion Show fundraiser; hosted the HOLLA Awards (Honoring Our Local Leaders and Administrators); and introduced the Traveling Table Cloth to families in Tuolumne County which encourages family meal time and made several presentations to local service clubs. Friday Night Live directly impacts many students and their families.
Friday Night Live consists of the FNL A.C.T.I.O.N. Youth Council (A Council to Improve our Neighborhoods); FNL Chapters; FNL Mentoring; Club Live; and FNL Kids Chapters at 12 schools in Tuolumne County. In 2007, the Friday Night Live Program in Tuolumne County provided 222 Alcohol and Substance Free Activities for teens. A total of 6,030 teens participated in these activities.
A-TCAA FNL also works closely with the YES Partnership, a community collaborative of more than 30 community representatives dedicated to healthy families and prevention of drug, alcohol and child abuse. A-TCAA serves as the fiscal agent for the YES Partnership and Prevent Child Abuse Tuolumne County (PCATC). PCATC is under the umbrella of the YES Partnership. In 2007 the Friday Night Live youth collaborated with the YES Partnership to form a Suicide Prevention Committee, made up of 40 leaders from various agencies, schools, churches, and businesses.
Funding is provided by fundraisers, grants, and donations from individuals, businesses, community groups, and foundations. Examples are the Sonora Area Foundation, the California Friday Night Live Partnership, Sonora Sunrise Rotary, and Behavioral Health Services of Tuolumne County.
