The A-TCAA Food Bank solicits, transports, and distributes donated foods to individuals, families, and community based emergency food pantries in Amador, Tuolumne, Calaveras, and Mariposa Counties. In 2007 a total of 55,111 households were served in the five counties.
Weekly food distribution sites have been established at several schools in Tuolumne County and also the Probation Department after school program, in order to serve the children in the community. There are twenty-three food distribution sites. Four of these sites provide food for senior citizens exclusively.
There are eleven food distribution sites in Amador County including such places as the Head Start, low-income housing, the Senior Center and local churches. Food distribution is provided bi-monthly in Amador County in order to better reach seniors in need. The Interfaith Council of Amador County has contracted with A-TCAA in order to gain assistance to implement an operational restructure, which will enable more residents to receive services.
The Food Bank, in cooperation with several local community groups, provides holiday baskets each year. In 2007, a total of 1,479 holiday baskets were distributed in Tuolumne County. In Amador County a total of 618 holiday baskets were distributed through a project called “Project Thanks.”
Funding support for the Food Bank is provided through such sources as fundraisers, grants, and donations from individuals, businesses, community groups, and foundations. Examples are The Walk Against Hunger, Cans that Can Food Drive, The Sonora Area Foundation; MAZON, a Jewish Response to Hunger; the State Department of Social Services, Second Harvest, the County of Tuolumne, and the United Way.
