Program Description

A-TCAA Family Resource Services is a comprehensive child abuse and family violence prevention program that provides a range of services for children and families in Amador County. In 2007 19 meetings were held as one-on-one parenting classes and an average of 24 families participated in group parenting classes on positive discipline techniques, stress reduction, communication skills and problem solving skills.

The parenting classes also include the “Baby Steps” Program, targeted for youth adult and teen parents. In 2007, five young adults received support. “Common Ground” is a program which is a parent-teen interactive communication class. Parenting classes are also held ongoing at the County Jail.

The Therapeutic Counseling Program for children who have been abused or traumatized provided 1,795 hours of counseling with a registered intern or licensed therapist in 2007.

The Home Visitor Program provides ongoing intervention services for families in stress through in- home visiting staff. In 2007, 21 families received such support in Amador County.

The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program is also part of the A-TCAA FRS. This program matches trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court.

The Family Resource Services staff works hard to try to inform the community about A-TCAA services by utilizing media such as the local radio and television stations, local newspapers, holding fund raisers, and giving presentations to Community Groups. There were 19 presentations given in 2007.

Funding is provided through resources such as grants and donations from individuals, businesses, community groups, and foundations. Examples are the State of California, Mule Creek State Prison, Jackson Rancheria, and United Way California Capital Region.
